I was the Otago Māori Researcher on this project which involved: interviewing, checking the transcripts, working on collaborative publications and preparing the first report (2009 – 2010).

My role in this research: Kairangahau Māori (Māori Researcher) and Field Co-ordinator for the Otago region. I arranged and conducted the interviews and surveys for the youth situated in Otago. 2021 Ka Au Kahuraki – a series of interviews from a selection of Christchurch East residents expressing their hopes and aspirations for Christchurch East in terms of whānau hauora.

2021 Rapaki Women’s Welfare League – gathering the work of the League members and producing seven interviews of League members to be screened at regional and national conferences.

2021 Safer Walking Land Search and Rescue Video Series – sharing personal stories of whānau who have a whānau member with cognitive impairment who utilises the Wander tracker to keep them safe whilst walking.

Received the Ria McBride Research Grant from New Horizons for Women’s Trust as a contribution towards my Masters in Science Communication, Dunedin, 2011.

2013/14 Board of Trustee Member for Bathgate Park School, Dunedin. This role involved the following: attending monthly meetings, suspension and exclusion meetings, attending to the Health and Safety Portfolio, supporting and representing the school’s bilingual unit – Te Rakiatea, facilitating and supporting the school’s Smokefree School status and attending many school events.

2013 Special Olympics Volunteer, Dunedin – runner and usher at this event over three days.

2013/14 Attend and fully participate in all Whānau Rōpū at all five schools my children currently attend (Tainui Primary, Bathgate Park Primary, Tahuna Intermediate, St Kilda Kindergarten and Ka Puananī (one day immersion pilot)– North East Valley). This involves sometimes facilitating the meetings, writing required research for the meetings, correspondence, media communication and contributing to school policies.

From 2004-2007 I joined Te Waka Huruhuru Manu Trust to establish the first Early Childhood Bilingual Unit in Dunedin. This has been a long but rewarding journey that is nearing fruition.

Kaiwhakahaere/chairperson from 1999-2004 for the Kāi Tahu Whānui ki Tamaki Makaurau Komiti. This is a support group for Kāi Tahu living in Auckland. We ran four large Wānanga/workshops per year on a variety of kaupapa (topics). The focus was to create safe and educational environments to assist Kāi Tahu descendants to come together and learn about their culture and language.

1999-2003 I have helped with a variety of beach, river care and community projects for the local community at Bethells Beach.

1999-2003 Volunteered for the Waitakere City Councils, “War Against Weed Campaign” and the “Clean Up the Streets” project.
